For those resigned to watching the Olympic action on TV instead of live have been outraged at how empty some of the venues have been. Shots of the Aquatics centre, Wimbledon and other venues show blocks of empty seats. According to Lord Coe these were seats reserved for foreign VIPs.
About 20% of total seats for the Games have been reserved for these VIPs. So where are they? According to Scotland Yard, a lot of the ticket touts that they arrested were reselling tickets allocated to these very VIPs.
Locog, reacting to the criticism of empty seats have now released a few thousand more tickets via the official ticketing website. http://www.tickets.london2012.com/ You can try your luck on there but it’s like searching for a needle in a haystack. I’ve tried.
They are also offering tickets to teachers and students in East London. Anything to fill up those empty stadiums. We have seen shots where soldiers have been told/ordered to fill up some of those empty blocks of seats to make it look less empty. It’s all a bit of a shambles really. A shame when tickets were oversubscribed by over 5 times and the people who want to, can’t get in to watch the sports.
They have also started selling returns like at Wimbledon, tickets from people leaving the venue. These are available at the main stadium in Stratford.
