What do you do on a boring mid week afternoon. If you are like me you will try to fill it with a quick film.
This weeks choices were a bit meagre so I ended up watching The Other Woman as a bit of light relief.

This is the classic, women fight back movie ala First Wives Club but without the winning one liners. Cameron Diaz plays Carly, the first mistress. She is a high flying New York lawyer with the killer corporate wardrobe to boot. The dowdy wife is played by Leslie Mann and the other mistress Amber/Boobs is played by Sports Illustrated model kate Upton.
The storyline: the wife and mistresses get back at the husband and the stupid things they do on the way. The ending: they win, of course. The script is as expected, rather corny. There is no sense of any sort of carmaderie between the “sisters” and there is very little chemistry on screen. The wife’s back story did not endear her to the audience. If the premise that he is a philandering husband the main point of the plot to make all women hate him, it’s not enough.
The content of the film: lots of dressing up by the ladies, nice locations, The Hamptons, Bahamas, beaches which allows for lots of scenes of the women in bikinis and skimpy clothing. If they are looking to appeal to women, this is not the way.
The scene where Kate Upton runs down the beach in her skimpy white bikini in slow motion was probably meant to be the equivalent of the Bo Derek emerging from the sea scene but is no where close. Unfortunately, that was probably her best scene. She looks decorative but really can’t act.
In my opionion, there isn’t enough man candy to balance the film. There was just the token insertion of Mr Lady Gaga, Taylor Kinney, as an alternative love interest.
The scene where Mark (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) the husband cracks up after being confronted by his wife and mistresses is seriously overacted by
Could have been funnier. I needed a bit of mindless escapism for an hour or so and it delivered that. It was entertaining enough.
