Gourmets across the UK await today eagerly when the first day of the grouse season hits the shops. Today at Harrods, they welcomed the arrival of Grouse from Mr Al Fayed’s private estate in Scotland with a bit of a ceremony. The newly shot grouse was piped into the Harrods Food halls by 2 bagpipers no less.
Lots of restaurants have put Grouse on the menu from 12th August so seek them out if you want to try some. (Try Racine Kitchen in Knightsbride) If you are going to buy some to cook at home, wait a couple of weeks as the birds will get plumper as the season progresses. All the top butchers will stock them or you can buy them from the Harrods Food Halls. Not cheap though, going by recent prices, you will get little change from £30.
